“The Knowledge of the Holy” | Kim Hall & Erin Holcomb Rm: 228

(A.W. Tozer study – *Women’s study*)

“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” Tozer

What is the nature of God? How can one experience God’s presence in their daily lives? Tozer addresses these and other questions in an insightful, succinct and reverent way. Each week’s study/chapter can stand alone. Please jump in and join the class for good discussion and sweet community as the class seeks to know God as he really is.

January 10-14, a group of All Saints members will travel to Port-au-Prince, Haiti to visit the orphan village that All Saints has supported since the 2010 earthquake. They will work side by side The Global Orphan Project to help sustain and build up the locals there, and simply share the love of God.

All Saints goes to Haiti, because James 1:27 says to visit orphans: “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” We go because, next to family no one is better positioned to care for Gods children than His church. We go because part of All Saints Mission, Strategy, and Vision is “…to serve him in word and deed, inside the church and outside the church, locally in Austin and internationally around the world, through giving money and through giving labor, in our individual vocations and in corporate initiatives…” We go to share Christ’s love with all we encounter and watch it transform the lives of all that are involved.

All Saints and The Global Orphan Project history:

On January 12, 2010 a massive earthquake hit Haiti just outside its largest city, Port-au-Prince with a magnitude 7.0. The following day two All Saints members traveled to Haiti with small a group from The Global Orphan Project. They were able to help with immediate disaster relief efforts for the orphanages. On Sunday, January 24, 2010, All Saints members generously donated $100,000 to The Global Orphan Project. Those funds were used for immediate care of the kids at orphan villages and their neighbors in need. Specifically, 100,000 pounds of rice, 20,000 pounds of beans, 8,000 gallons of clean drinking water, and 100′s of gallons of gas and diesel fuel, among many other supplies such as tents, sleeping bags, and medical supplies.

In April, All Saints partnered with a orphan village called “Calix’s”, named after Pastor Calix, the pastor and caretaker of the 35 children that lived with him. Calix and 35 kids were huddled under a tree for 3 weeks after their home was destroyed. The Global Orphan Project found and cared for them. Calix agreed to relocate to the Orphan Transition Village until a new home could be constructed. Since then, almost 35 All Saints members and 2 pastors have visited the orphanage in Haiti. To view more about Calix’s village, watch this feature on CBS’s 60 Minutes in a report by Scott Pelley.

Learn More

Also, Tim announced an opportunity on Wednesday night, November 14 for congregation members to have the opportunity to join All Saints leaders in a “family dialogue” about all of this—from the Sunday evening service, the property site, the vision of All Saints, the staff—and how these all fit together. The desire is to not let the future of All Saints be driven by any small group within the church, but rather to involve everyone, communicate frequently, and make it a family endeavor. Please RSVP to reserve a place on November 14.

Get Involved

Soon to be established are several volunteer groups to help in various capacities: 1) a prayer group to pray specifically for the building project, 2) a building committee, 3) a capital campaign committee. If you are interested in participating in one of these ways, please contact Stephen Hurd or David Breeding.

Friday, November 16 7-9PM

Saturday, November 17 9AM-Noon

This gathering is part of the Redeemer Pastoral Team’s effort to serve the flock as we all deal with the big questions surrounding our death. It’s possible, of course, that we won’t die, that we will be among those who “remain” until Christ returns. Apart from that great event, however, we need to recall that no one gets out of here alive. Are we ready for that journey? Maybe more to the point, how do we die by faith and in the faith? We’ll discuss Biblical, practical answers to questions like these:

What happens when I die?

How long should I fight a disease before admitting that its time to give up that struggle and prepare for departure?

What should I and my family expect from a funeral home/mortuary as they serve us? Living is pretty expensive―is death even costlier?

The prophet told King Hezekiah to set his affairs in order and get ready to go. How can I do the same?

What about cremation and burial? Is it OK for a Christian to choose to have his or her body cremated?

Death, the Last Enemy. When faced with the reality of his own death, Paul told the Philippians that while living was “Christ,” dying was “gain,” and later he would describe his impending execution by the Romans as a “departure” occurring after he’d finished the course God had given him. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible has a lot to say about life and death―and more life after that as well. Nevertheless, we tend to shy away from the subject of death, sometimes a little tentative in our steps around the last enemy, not quite as bold as John Donne who famously rebuked that monster exclaiming, “Death, thou shalt die!”

Join Us!
… and bring your questions as well, as we take up an informative study of the most exciting
journey any of us will ever make―our departure for glory!

Previously, he has been Interim Organist at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Austin, Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Brighton, Michigan, and Faith Presbyterian Church in San Antonio. Dr. Nelson, an Associate with the American Guild of Organists, maintains an active concert schedule and has performed in France, the Czech Republic, Poland, England, and throughout the United States. Equally comfortable on the piano as the organ, he is in high demand as a collaborative musician. Nelson is the accompanist for the San Antonio Choral Society and is on the accompanying faculty of Trinity University.
